At Vaughan Primary School, we are committed to ensuring equality of education and opportunity for all pupils, staff, parents and carers receiving services from the school, irrespective of race, gender, disability, faith or socio-economic background. We aim to develop a culture of inclusion and diversity in which all those connected to the school feel proud of their identity and able to participate fully in school life. 

The achievement of pupils will be monitored to ensure that no group of pupils is disadvantaged within school. Where we find that groups of pupils are not making expected progress, we will develop strategies and interventions to tackle this. At Vaughan Primary School we will use this data to support pupils, raise standards and ensure inclusive teaching. We will tackle discrimination by the positive promotion of equality, challenging bullying and stereotypes and creating an environment which champions respect for all. At, Vaughan Primary School we believe that diversity is a strength, which should be respected and celebrated by all those who learn, teach and visit here. 

As part of this commitment, we keep diversity, equality and inclusion at the forefront of our minds when developing and moving the school forward. 

Our elected Year 6 House Captains remit is ‘Inclusion for All’ and we are committed to ensuring this is clear in all that we do to represent the diversity within our school community. 

Our school community

Our pupil community is made up of children who share 64 native languages with Romanian, Gujarati, Hindi, Tamil and Arabic being amongst the most spoken. Our pupil community represents 10 different religions. 

Our staff and governance

All staff appointments and promotions are made on the basis of merit and ability and in compliance with the law. However we will ensure wherever possible that the staffing of the school reflects the diversity of our community. 

Our curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to reflect the diversity of our community. Equality, diversity and inclusion runs through all aspects of our curriculum and teachers plan and deliver lessons taking into account all the pupils in their class.  

Our curriculum isn’t fixed and is designed to represent the cohort of pupils we have at any given time. 

Our policies

When writing or updating important policies we keep the importance of equality, inclusion and diversity at the forefront of our minds. We have specific policies in place to ensure that all pupils, staff and the wider community can utilise to support our commitment to equality at Vaughan. 

Measuring Equality

At Vaughan, we take pupil voice very seriously. We have a range of opportunities where pupils are able to share their thoughts, views and opinions on the things that affect them on a daily basis at school. We have house captains, school council, sports leaders and digital leaders who all meet regularly with teachers to put their views forward. 

We track the attainment and achievement of all groups of children including but not limited to gender, ethnicity and disability/ SEN to ensure that we are supporting all our pupils to make the best possible progress in order to prepare them for a happy future.
